Declaration of Energy Independence

The Green Collaborative of New Orleans, a group of over 72 organizations and businesses has commemorated Independence Day by publishing the attached Declaration of Energy Independence. This statement speaks to widely held views on energy and conservation issues, and calls for a greatly increased urgency in pursuing renewable energy sources and technology, and the jobs and economic security that come with these industries. As dire as the immediate need is to stop the BP gusher, clean up the Gulf, get our fishers, oil industry and other members of our economy and community working again, we feel that these short term solutions are not the only ones called for.  This is a moment of opportunity not to be missed in urging us, as a community and a nation, forward towards the true energy independence that is essential to maintaining fundamental rights upon which our founding fathers built this nation.

The Green Collaborative hosted the public announcement and signing of the Declaration on Friday, July 2nd, in the historic New Orleans City Park Casino building.
