New Orleans is working to "green" our neighborhoods. Parish governments in Southeast Louisiana are considering a number of programs to help homeowners invest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation. This survey is being conducted to gauge interest in such programs, and to ensure they are effectively designed. Any information you can provide will be extremely helpful to efforts to reduce utility costs and energy consumption in our communities.

Beginning December 1, 2010, The Green Project will accept nominations for the 5th annual Green Giant Award. The Green Giant Award is bestowed annually upon an individual who has significantly improved the environmental quality of New Orleans or southeast Louisiana, and the award will be presented at the SALVATIONS 2011 Gala on April 16, 2011. The Green Project will continue to accept nominations for the award through February 28, 2010, and nomination forms can be found both online or can be submitted in person at The Green Project's warehouse (2831 Marais Street).

From sustainable building to waste management to the devastating oil spill, southeast Louisiana faces daunting environmental problems, none of which can be combated single-handedly. Recognizing the importance of others who are making significant strides to improve the environmental welfare of our communities is vital to encourage excellence within the field. If you know of somebody who you feel should be recognized, please nominate them for the award.

Past recipients of The Green Giant Award are: Lucianne and Joe Carmichael of Studio in the Woods (2010), Linda Stone of Global Green and founder of The Green Project (2009), Monique Pilie of Hike for KaTREEna (2008), and Steven Bingler of Concordia Architects (2007).
